"Best regime in the world": Iran

The "best regime in the world" receives a prize - and who else should receive the award but Iran? In a laudatory speech, the excellent political and social performance of the political leadership is praised. And in the emotional acceptance speech, Iran's supreme political leader, Ali Khamenei, doesn't miss the opportunity to personally go into detail about his regime's excellent achievements: "We are proud of our deeds, which cut across all age groups: from small children, whom we diligently send forward as child soldiers, to the students whom we corralled and tortured in the universities, to the older generation, which has actually long since tired of the system."

This is the satirical shoot of "Corruption on Earth", a short film by director Omid Mirnour about the regime in Iran that despises human rights. The film mixes reality and fiction, showing real cell phone footage of the current Iran protests and just the fictional film scenes. Several production companies (including EASYdoesit from Berlin) were involved in the making of the film. Among the actors are the Iranian-born actress and former Miss Europe Shermine Shahrivar and Garry Fischmann (known from the series "SOKO Hamburg").

"At the beginning of the Iran protests this year, I realized relatively quickly that I had more power than 'just' sharing posts on social media and going to demos," Omid Mirnour recaps of his motivation for the film. "I had to make a film about this issue that represents how we Iranians currently feel. How we still perceived the Western world's treatment in the beginning. How we are fed up with the hypocrisy and corruption of the inhuman, child-killing Iranian regime. How dare one of the most corrupt governments ever accuse and execute someone for 'corruption on earth'?"

He said he sat on the short film for three months, with more than 200 people and 20 companies supporting him on the project. "I've never had such a heartfelt project as this and I'm excited to show you the film."

Referring to the Revolution in Iran, he explains that it is not the headscarf or "Islam" that is triggering the protests. "It's about freedom of expression and choice, it's about equality between women* and men and between other ethnic groups living in Iran, it's about a separation between religion and state, it's about general human dignity and the most basic universal rights, which have now been extremely restricted for over 43 years. It is about fair trials and stopping mass executions. All of these systematic repressions are carried out under the guise of Islam by the regime. Many Muslims in Iran represent and want to live exactly these values in Iran. They also protest against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Therefore, under no circumstances should they become the projection surface of journalistically incompetent or right-wing extremists who misrepresent this situation or instrumentalize it for their own purposes. Be omide Azadi/ In Hope of Freedom."

The short film "Corruption on Earth" is eleven minutes and 38 seconds long and was released on December 29 in various languages. There is a German language version, an English version with Spanish subtitles and one in Farsi with Arabic subtitles.
